Kutztown knocks Golden Rams out of the NCAA II North
Atlantic Regional 2-0
SLIPPERY ROCK, PA - West Chester University
outdueled Kutztown and Shippensburg to win the PSAC East title, but it
took the NCAA II North Atlantic Regional Tournament for both clubs to
exact some revenge.
On Friday at Slippery Rock University, Kutztown used a
twin-RBI triple to break open a scoreless tie as the Golden Bears
defeated West Chester 2-0 in the elimination game. The second loss by
WCU ended the Golden Ram season with a 32-13 record and marked the first
four-game losing streak for West Chester in more than two seasons.
Dan Newton ripped a pair of base hits and West Chester
put runners on base in every inning, but the Golden Rams just could not
forge a run in the tough loss.
The Golden Rams, making their first NCAA II appearance
since 1985, boasted 10 All-PSAC East players this season as well as the
Coach of the Year award for Chris Calciano. WCU has won over 60 games in
the past two seasons.
